Who is a Paryavaran Mitra?

A Paryavaran Mitra student demonstrates environmental leadership qualities through positive change in behaviour and action at individual, school, family and community levels. Thus every Paryavaran Mitra student becomes a change agent for sustainability.
The programme envisages engagement of the Paryavaran Mitra in five thematic areas.

Water and Sanitation
Energy
Waste Management
Biodiversity and Greening
Culture and Heritage

The Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF)

The Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) is the nodal agency in the administrative structure of the Central Government for the planning, promotion, co-ordination and overseeing the implementation of India's environmental and forestry policies and programmes.
The National Green Corps (NGC) started in 2001 is a nationwide programme of MoEF for environmental action through Eco- clubs. Each district in India has up to 250 schools which receive financial and technical support as part of the programme. 30-50 students are a members of each Eco - club. At present there are about 90000 Eco- clubs working across the states.

The programme is facilitated by 43 agencies/organizations across the country. Each state has a nodal and resource agency that implements and provides technical support for capacity building and development of material.

How can a school join the Paryavaran Mitra Programme?

  1. Schools part of the National Green Corps (NGC) programme will be enrolled in the project by default through the designated Nodal Agency.
  1.  Groups of schools/networks of schools can join the programme by contacting Paryavaran Mitra Secretariat at the address mentioned below.  
A formal agreement would have to be made between the school/groups of schools and CEE state office for joining the programme.
  1. Individual schools can join the programme by filing in the enrolment form . A school can also write to us with the details for the enrolment at:
